Harvest results for the 2008 growing season.
The bad news - our eggplant was hit by flea beetles, but we're hoping they'll recover.
Some of the eggplant are doing better now, with a few getting flowers on them and even starting to fruit.
The summer squash are growing, but they take a bit longer than zucchini to mature.
We planted multiple crops of broccoli, using a heat-tolerant variety for the warmer months. More flea beetle damage, but we're hopeful.
Tomatoes are getting larger, with great walls of vegetation held up by stakes and twine.
Big things are in the air (and in the ground) as we begin our 2008 harvest. For the first time this year, we've accepted our neighbor's generous offer to expand our cultivation into their fields, promising a bigger crop if all goes well.
We also have a bigger crew to help guide our efforts. Linda Casey joins us this year as Executive Director, and new Interns Kate and Colleen are helping our Volunteer Coordinator Michele Woz with the growing number of volunteers. Farm Manager Ken Dion is managing the growing task of growing with the volunteer assistance of CHP board member Joe Meichelbeck.
Our continued thanks to out to all our volunteers who make this effort a continuing success! Be sure to join us again this year, and help your Central Mass. neighbors and their kids!
